'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith renews contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the dramatic final moments of Swansea's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses following the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful strike from outside the box, and his teammate promptly hammered in the deflection before racing off toward the crowd to mark the goal, with supporters congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

This completed an unbelievable recovery given Swansea had been behind 2-0 during the second half. Amid the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a supporter shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory secured a upcoming game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had a prime vantage point when the underdogs took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's volley from about way out going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that range," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right defensive wing after they changed shape. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the winger was among the City players who praised the way the underdogs played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the simple things and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they know how to dictate and neutralize a game. You can believe you're doing well and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be switched on at all times of the game. It takes a tough attitude and attention just to remain competitive."

New Chapter

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a popular figure across a couple of years at his former club and has rapidly done the same in Wales. At his previous team he linked up again with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a spell at lower division Salford, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a bit naive going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears play is circulated without serious challenge. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that development for his team and nation, excelling for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including both legs encounters against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Early Days

It has been quite the ride for the youngster from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his parent, his father, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

His single match for Manchester United came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an plastic turf and the arena covering was closed owing to the weather of bitter cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he says, grinning. "The week before, several youth players and I trained together, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "It was quite easy, because I reached the point where I realized I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it reached a stage where I felt I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at the early evening: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a constant rider in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a minibus driven by team personnel, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to interact with the lads but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and driving. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on London's Central line after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
